Yumin Xu, AMFT
Registered Associate MFT under supervision by Lena Axelsson, LMFT # 47915
Yumin believes that everyone can benefit from therapy—it is a powerful tool for bridging the gap between reality and expectations, helping individuals lead more fulfilling and meaningful lives. She believes that with the right support, everyone has the potential to thrive, both personally and professionally. If life is a journey of discovering who we are and how we relate to the world, then a therapist is someone who walks alongside us, exploring that path and making discoveries along the way.
Yumin is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients can deepen their self-awareness, embrace who they are, and grow into who they want to become. She has provided school-based therapy services to diverse populations and values building authentic connections with her clients. Her training includes child-centered play therapy, career development and life planning, family therapy, and positive psychology.
Grounded in a person-centered approach, Yumin holds a strong belief that we all have the capacity for self-healing. Each individual’s story is unique—and how we choose to tell our stories shapes the way we feel about ourselves and our lives. She focuses on helping individuals see their experiences from new perspectives, discover their strengths, and create positive meanings from their stories.
Yumin earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. Prior to becoming a therapist, she had many years of management experience at a Fortune Global 500 company. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and, as an immigrant herself, understands the challenges and transitions involved in relocating and adapting to a new culture and identity.
