Heather Malin, AMFT
Registered Associate MFT under supervision by Lena Axelsson, LMFT # 47915
Heather brings over 20 years of experience specializing in purpose and identity development to her therapy practice. She sees purpose as the expression of our authentic selves through the choices we make and how we show up in relationships with others. With this perspective, she supports clients in exploring the deeper values and strengths that can guide healing, connection, and life direction.
Heather’s approach to therapy is relational, humanistic, and psychodynamic. Sessions honor the client's present lived experience while also exploring the influences of their past. She integrates ACT skills to promote mindfulness and values-focused living, and EFT methods that help clients understand and process difficult emotions. Through this integrated approach, she helps clients explore what may be keeping them stuck or in pain and draw on their inner resources to move toward the life they want.
Heather often works with teens and adults who are navigating attachment wounds, complex trauma, and other challenges that can create obstacles to a fulfilling life. She also works with families and parents to shift patterns that lead to conflict. Drawing on her background as a developmental psychologist, she helps parents better understand adolescent development and build more effective communication with their children.
Heather holds an MA in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University and a PhD in Education from Stanford University. She is the author of a book and numerous articles on purpose development and is recognized for her work in positive youth development. Heather approaches therapy as a collaborative process, bringing this experience, genuine curiosity about you, and respect for your agency as you make sense of your experiences and create meaningful change.
